Help getting my business going please.

Hi, I am Barri and I am starting my hair and photography businesses in Portland, Oregon, after working in the film industry for years. After working on the show "1923" with Helen Mirren as her personal assistant, we thought we would be headed back to work on season 2 this last summer. I have worked on films as a director and cinematographer over the last several years and yet I, like many others, find myself in this place of needing support.

After realizing "1923" could take a long time to get back into production and watching my savings get closer and closer to the red zone, I worked 3 part time jobs to sustain myself. Unfortunately, those combined jobs haven't been enough to financially sustain myself. The strikes have severely set us all back financially and I sure learned that I will never be without a sustainable job that I love again.

Even though I am booked in the spring to direct and DP a few features, it is too far away and I can't hold on financially. So, I am asking for support setting up my hair and photography business. I actually put myself through film school doing hair and photography and I love both. It’s been an extremely challenging and upsetting time. It has been a great lesson that we need to keep our income streams diverse, always show up, know that it is okay to be vulnerable and ask for help when you need it.
