My name is Abdel-Wahab Al-Abdalla, and I have established this campaign on behalf of my friend, Omran Alshawwa.

Omran’s story is one of unimaginable pain and loss. He describes a date that can never be forgotten—a date of blood, death, and displacement. Since that day, he has lost his friends, his hopes, his home, and most tragically, his beloved mother.

Omran Alshawwa is a 23-year-old graduate of software engineering, now writing from the heart of the war in Gaza. Over the past 7 months, he and his family have endured relentless violence, starvation, and displacement, moving from one place to another, constantly fleeing from death, and searching for food and safety. In his 23 years, Imran has lived through five wars and more than 20 escalations, but this time is different. This war has torn away everything—lives, homes, and memories.

After 6 months of suffering, Omran was with his family at a friend’s home near Al-Shifa Hospital, which had been under siege for over two weeks. During this time, his mother was killed. Imran could do nothing but watch helplessly as she died in his arms, her eyes filled with a tragic understanding that he could not save her. Her body lay in bed for more than 7 days before they could bury her, only after the military forces withdrew.

This fundraising campaign has been created for multiple purposes. Primarily, Omran is trying to escape Gaza with his family to Egypt, which costs $5,000 per person, and his family consists of 12 members. Secondly, the family has lost their jobs and needs to find a new source of income. Lastly, their family home has been completely destroyed, and rebuilding it will cost at least $50,000.
