Help Improve the Lives of Girls in Vietnam

Help Room to Read and Anh Duong raise $22,409 to support girls' empowerment in Vietnam!

Who is Room to Read?

Room to Read is a global organization transforming the lives of millions of children in low-income communities by focusing on literacy and gender equality in education. They work in collaboration with local communities to develop literacy skills and a habit of reading among primary school children and to ensure that girls can complete secondary school with the skills necessary to negotiate key life decisions. Room to Read has impacted 18.7 million children across more than 37,000 communities in 16 countries.

After more than a decade of work transforming the lives of students and their communities, Room to Read began to offer technical assistance and to share our expertise and resources with partner organizations. We provide training materials, workshops, and monitoring, to these partners in an effort to maximize the quality of their work and, in turn, to expand the benefit to children on an even larger scale through these partners.

With your support, Room to Read can effectively build the capacity of local organizations in Vietnam, both enhancing their work and shining a light on the importance of educating and supporting girls across the country.

Room to Read has identified two exceptional grassroots organizations in Vietnam to help carry out elements of its innovative girls’ education model, including Anh Duong.

Who is Anh Duong?

Anh Duong is a grassroots organization in Vietnam focused on serving vulnerable communities in Hau Giang province. It does this through comprehensive programming that focuses on gender equality in education as well as community health projects. To-date, Anh Duong has reached approximately 500 teachers and 32,000 students through their initiatives, which include trainings for women and girls around a variety of topics such as domestic violence and sexual health education.

The trainings will cover topics such as sexual health, safety, goal setting, the importance of education and career preparation. Anh Duong and Room to Read will also create a new life skills training module on conflict management to address bullying and violence in schools.

“Before, I was shy. I always stood in the corner of the room because I did not believe in myself. Thanks to Room to Read’s life skills camps, I was given opportunities to participate and present during activities. I learned from other girls and discovered it’s good to speak up. Every girl needs life skills to make important decisions in life -- decisions that they can look back and proud of, without any regrets.”
