Hi! I’m Peter. I’m currently studying in the Diesel and Heavy Equipment program at one of my local community colleges. I have started this Go Fund Me to buy a laptop for the program specifically on which diagnostic software can be run. Why am I doing this?
One of our instructors is a licensed tech for a major company and has permission to run the diagnostic software and hardware. It is currently loaded onto a laptop that simply can’t handle it and, more or less, makes the diagnostics and programming unusable. Here is the complication: due to college IT requirements, a college laptop cannot be used for this purpose. It has to be a personal laptop. The short version is, every time a college laptop requires a software update, it needs administrator privileges, and the college is unwilling to let anyone outside of IT have those privileges. Manufacturer programming and diagnostic software requires updates almost daily. I thought it would be a really nice gesture to help bypass all the BS and just donate a laptop to them that they could use for this purpose. And rather than getting a laptop doomed to failure in the next 2 years, I could source a more robust one that would have a much longer shelf life.
They DO NOT know anything about me doing this and I thought it could be a really nice surprise. (This is also why I used a ridiculous stock photo)
If I don’t reach or come close to reaching my goal, I will return donations to those who did give.
Full disclosure: this lack of adequate equipment came up because I had a vehicle I wanted to run diagnostics on and we tried but, alas, the laptop couldn’t handle it. However rest assured that I would love to do this for them regardless of any small benefit I might gain from it. No tax write-offs can be taken.
