Ilze has recently been diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer, requiring surgery in a few weeks. After surgery, it will be determined if she will need further treatment with chemotherapy or not. Her health insurance has a very high deductible, and she is unable to change her insurance plan until the upcoming year. She will also be out of work for 4 to 6 weeks to recover with unpaid time off. No one should have to deal with a significant financial burden when having to heal physically and emotionally from a cancer diagnosis.
