Moe Mills is a union organizer here in St. Louis, Missouri, who together with their coworkers won a union at our city's 5th Starbucks, located at Hanley and Dale, in the summer of 2022. On Monday, August 11, 2025, they were illegally fired by their store manager Reo Davison.
We know why Moe was targeted and fired, and it's because they're incredibly good at what they do. Charismatic even on their worst days, f you ever asked them what their secret was they would always blush and say "being really hot and funny, duh." More seriously, Moe's organizational drive stems from a deep sense of love and care for those around them. Moe's coworkers see this in everything they do, from how they talk to people, to how they make sure to clean certain parts of the store no one else wants to clean, to most notably, keeping a food bank in the back of house that Moe stocked with their own money and time to make sure people living paycheck to paycheck (most Starbucks workers) always had their next meal.
Moe was fired illegally, with their store manager claiming that they "left coins in the tip jar overnight" (a common Starbucks practice that the store manager is also guilty of). This, of course, happened after Moe launched a letter to their regional manager reporting their store manager's wrongdoings, after Moe had gone to the health department to try to rid the store of an ant infestation that was contaminating food, and after Moe had led several other protected actions including a health and safety walkout. Despite claiming he "has proof," the store manager never provided this to Moe, and placed Moe on a final written warning despite them not having any other discipline on their record in the past 5 years. Within a few weeks the manager put 3 more workers on final written warnings and fired a fourth. And then he fired Moe, too.
We know that this retaliatory crash out from management and the company is illegal, and a move of grave desperation on their part to try to stop our union campaigns 630+ store momentum. We are filing the necessary legal and internal casework to make sure that Moe sees justice. We know that Starbucks will not succeed in the end.
But for now, we are asking our community to pool together and help make sure that while Moe awaits reinstatement and finding their next foothold that we can provide for them the way they always found to provide for others.
Any donation you can make to help Moe is an act of profound solidarity not just to them, but to making sure that the people who have carried our union campaign across nearly 4 years of anti-worker assaults from Starbucks can keep going to fight again in the battle to make our workplaces more just, democratic, and livable.
Thank you so much for helping our friend <3
