Hi, my name is Ilia Smirnov, and I’m 19 years old. I recently graduated from high school and am preparing to start college — a dream I’ve worked hard to achieve. But I have another dream I hope to fulfill while I still have the strength and ability.
I was born with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) — a progressive and life-limiting muscle-wasting disease. Over the years, DMD has taken away many things from me: the ability to walk, to move freely, and to live without constant medical care. But it hasn’t taken my hope, my curiosity, or my love for this beautiful world.
My biggest wish is to travel — to experience the breathtaking landscapes of the U.S. and Canada, to see the national parks, feel the wonder of Alaska, and explore the diverse beauty of different states. I want to feel the peace of mountains, forests, and open skies before my condition progresses further.
To make this dream a reality, I’m raising funds for a wheelchair-accessible RV or motorhome that can support my needs and allow my family and me to travel safely and comfortably. This type of vehicle isn’t just transportation — it’s freedom, independence, and a chance to make unforgettable memories while I still can.
With Duchenne, mobility and independence decline over time, and I know I may not always have this window of opportunity. That’s why I’m reaching out to you — to ask for your help in giving me the chance to see the world while it’s still possible.
Any donation, big or small, brings me one step closer to living this dream. If you can't donate, please consider sharing my story with others. Together, you can help make this journey possible.
