Third time’s the charm.
The Gambler 500 is a massive off-road rally located in Oregon. The goal of the event is to purchase a car for as cheap as humanly possible, and drive around on dirt / gravel roads while picking up trash.
The Gambler 500 first started in 2014, where a group of friends decided to see how far a $500 car could make it off road. Since that humble beginning, the event has grown to thousands of participants, each driving around a questionable road legal car. It has also grown to become one of the largest public land cleanup events in the world. In 2023, the event helped cleanup over 325,000 pounds of trash from public lands.
The iFunny community’s involvement started back in 2020, when user NCR made a post about possibly competing in the event. He, along with user TheDukeOfHazard, were able to raise enough money to purchase a Ford Crown Victoria. They named this car, Curse Breaker. They attended the event for 2 years, before stopping.
I always loved the iFunny community, and wanted to continue Curse Breaker’s legacy. So, back in 2023, I did just that. I created High Noon, iFunny’s second Gambler 500 car. This will be my third time attending the event. The last few years, I was only able to post clips and photos from the event. This year though, I will have a dedicated camera guy following me around the entire time.
And to make things even better, I will be competing in the HooptieX. This is a racing event held at the Gambler 500, where cars compete to be the fastest to complete the course. I was unable to compete last year due to improper safety equipment (apparently you need a helmet). This year, I will have everything in order to compete in the HooptieX.
Even though the car is cheap, being a part of the event is not. Registration alone for my cameraman and I is around $200. That, along with today's gas prices, makes this a pricey endeavor. I also need to purchase new calipers, food, figure out what's draining the dang battery, and much more.
I would like to thank you for helping bring me, and the iFunny community to this event for the past few years. It's incredible to see just how much the community can accomplish.
