Hello, my name is Idania Santibanez, and I am a third-year student at UC Merced studying Sociology and Psychology in Prague, Czech Republic. It had been my long life dream to study abroad and get to experience and learn from a completely different culture. Unfortunately, that dream came to an abrupt stop due to the coronavirus pandemic. The program I'm currently enrolled in has left me with two options, either I stay quarantined in my room until further notice, or I begin my journey home. I originally booked a flight for Monday morning (March 16th) but on March 11th, the Trump administration's new stance of the coronavirus pandemic notified the public with more alarming news. With a new ban to European travelers beginning midnight of March 13th, the difficulties of getting home has exponentially increased. To further add to the difficulty of the situation, the level of the pandemic is now higher and requires immediate action. This has forced me to seek immediate travel to the US. I have diminished what I have in terms of money due to the urgent travel and housing arrangements. Unfortunately, my program is not providing any refunds nor plane tickets to return home at this time. This is difficult for myself as a college student and for my family. Last-minute plane tickets are extremely expensive and this has greatly diminished my savings. I will not only struggle to get home, but I will have to continue to pay for school and other necessities upon my arrival. This was such a difficult and emotionally overwhelming decision, but my safety comes first. As a result, I'm coming home and I will need all of your support to get there. As a struggling college student, I humbly ask of you to donate if it is possible at this time. I appreciate well wishes and positive vibes as well. Thank you!
