First of all, we would like to thank everyone who has supported us and donated already. We really appreciate it. Iain, Molly, Patrick, Ellie, Maureen and Jacqueline, are tackling one last challenge on Friday 25th July. Together we will be completing a 5km route in Bushy Park.

As many of you know Iain had an accident over two years ago, which resulted in Tetraplegia (Paraplegia). This has been life changing for Iain and those around him. Being tetraplegic brings with it many health challenges that stem from lack of movement. Iain is keen to keep healthy and strong. However, equipment, adaptions and physio are all expensive.

Iain has tried a wonderful device that will attach to his wheelchair called the Berkel Bike. It allows the rider to cycle using their arms, while their legs also move ‘passively’ (all supported by battery power). This is good for circulation, blood pressure, bone density and muscle tone, among other things. We would appreciate your help in buying a Berkel Bike. It would make such a difference to Iain’s overall health and quality of life.

A word from Iain:

“I’ve been disabled now for over two years. I have relied hugely on the help and commitment of relatives, friends and principally, my wife Jackie, to piece life back together.

I still consider myself to be a cyclist despite being paralysed. It was on a non-descript Saturday in November 2022 that I pedalled my customary 25+ miles home, to and from work, through central London traffic. Later, in the middle of that night I inexplicably tumbled down the stairs and injured my spinal cord.

I am now a permanent, wheelchair-using, tetraplegic, albeit one who’s keen to continue cycling in whatever adaptive form is appropriate. That’s why we are appealing for your help to buy the Berkel Bike.”
