Help Hypnos Get Life-Saving Surgery

Hi friends and family. On Sunday, Nov. 3rd, 2024, Jon and I adopted two kittens! They're brother and sister named Hypnos and Nyx, after the Greek gods of sleep and night. We'd been waiting a little while to adopt new cats after the passing of our girl, Hera, back in April, but when Jon saw these tiny black two-month-old kittens at the Humane Society, we knew we had to give them a home.
They quickly acclimated to their new surroundings, and we learned that they're just about the most lovable, affectionate, playful, friendly, happy-go-lucky kittens you'll ever meet. As littermates, they're also joined at the hip, playing together and sleeping together, rarely letting the other out of their sight. Our ten-year-old cat, Zeus, was less than enthused at these new interlopers, but even he's warmed up to them over the last two weeks (mostly...). They've brought so much joy and love into our home.
Unfortunately, after a trip to the emergency vet on Nov. 11th, we discovered that after Hypnos was born, he developed scar tissue around his urethra, preventing him from urinating properly. Less than two weeks since adopting him, our choices for his future became surgical intervention or euthanasia.
Now, we're no strangers to the veterinary costs of owning pets, but the timing and severity of his condition was beyond our imagining. Given how much love he's shown us and those around him in such a short time (every friend, assistant, nurse, and veterinarian who's met him has been absolutely taken with his lovable and affectionate nature), we knew we had to do whatever we could to ensure he lives a happy life as he can with his sister.
This meant a surgery that was quoted between $3,000 and $5,000, with added costs of an overnight boarding and his emergency vet visit. I've always been the kind of person to handle things on my own, but within the last year, we've also dealt with Zeus tearing multiple ligaments in his knee, and Hera's passing from lymphoma (Jon and I seem to have had spectacularly bad luck with our cats' health in the last two years). The pragmatic thing to do would be to put Hypnos down given the high costs of his care, and I'm normally a very pragmatic person, but this was a decision that we could not bring ourselves to make.
So, we've decided to reach out to our friends and family for help. If anyone feels like contributing a small amount to the care of such a wonderful kitten as Hypnos, our family would be forever grateful. Our fundraising goal is merely a supplement to our own financial obligation, and would go towards paying down the cost of his surgery that he's having today, Nov. 13th. Even simple, kind messages and words of support would mean the world. And if you could share this fundraiser and let others know that there is a kitten in need, we would appreciate your help in that way, too.
Thanks for reading our story, and thank you again for anything you can contribute.
