Help Hymie and Marilyn rebuild after the fire

Hi, we are Andrew and Anderson, we own Floriade, a wee family business on Dover Road. Hymie and Marilyn are extremely well known to a lot of us in Rose Bay and have owned the Art Shop@Rose Bay for 22 years!

This morning, Sunday 2nd June, their shop burnt in a fire, closing much of New South Head Road and Dover Road.

Hymie and Marilyn are two of the most generous and kindest people in the Rose Bay business community, serving our community with a smile, and I've lost track of the little gifts my daughter has received when we buy from their extremely well stocked shop!

They would never ask for this, we know first-hand that being a small business owner is challenging and stressful at the best of times - this fire would be devastating for them. I'm hoping our community can band together and help them through this crisis.

We have by far and away exceeded the modest target I hoped to achieve, I changed the target to give them some breathing space for the next 6-8 weeks as they rebuild.

There have been a few conversations going around questioning the value in donating when a business is insured. I think it's worth noting that while insurance covers a lot, it doesn't cover everything that has been lost - and more often than not is quite a long and involved process - in the meantime Hymie and Marilyn have lost their income - still have suppliers and landlords bills to meet for the business and also their own personal expenses which still need to be met while they work through the process of reopening. It's very humbling to be part of a community that has shown so much support and love for these two wonderful people. We are so blessed to live and work in this corner of Sydney
