Help for Hyla
Hyla Saltz is a beloved friend and community member who has spent decades pouring care, creativity, and heart into the people around her. Until very recently, Hyla was still working, creating, and dreaming about the future. Anyone who knows Hyla knows how naturally she makes people feel seen, uplifted, and, in her own way, fabulous. Over the past year, Hyla has faced a relentless battle with illness. At one point, she was on a ventilator, fighting for her life, and she came back from that with incredible resilience. Most recently, Hyla was hospitalized again and underwent major surgery, spending two months in the hospital. Since then, one leg has been left extremely weak, and she has spent months in a nursing home and rehabilitation center, working hard to learn how to walk again. Even now, while fragile and under 100 pounds, Hyla’s spirit remains strong as she fights to get her life back.
Right now, Hyla is in inpatient rehabilitation receiving the physical therapy she needs, but her health insurance has run out. She is being forced to choose between using her Social Security to remain in rehab or leaving before she is truly ready. Her doctors and therapist believe that additional inpatient rehabilitation days could make all the difference in her recovery, independence, and quality of life. Donations will go directly toward helping Hyla stay in the care she needs, support her ongoing care, and help with her transition home when she is strong enough. Rita is asking everyone who knows Hyla, and even those who do not, to please give if they can. Toward Hyla’s continued recovery, your support would be a lifesaver. Please reach out through this campaign to help Hyla Saltz get back to doing what she does best. No gift is too small, and every act of kindness matters. Please donate and share this page. If you are a physical therapist in the Seattle community and are willing to donate sessions, that support could also mean so much to Hyla’s recovery. Thank you.
