Helping Hyde and His Dog Linux Get Back on Their Feet
Story:
Hi, my name is Hyde, and this is my dog, Linux. Three years ago my life completely changed.
I spent 14 years with the same company in upper management. From the outside it looked like I was doing great – steady income, apartment, all the “normal” markers of success. On the inside I was empty, numb, and trapped in addiction.
Then I met Jesus, and everything shifted.
Not long after that, everything I was leaning on fell apart at the same time: I lost my job, my apartment, and my access to my bank accounts. Because of legal/financial issues I still can’t work “on the books” in a normal way. I’ve stayed sober, stayed clean, and done my best to follow Christ and help others wherever I can – but it feels like every time I get close to standing, something knocks me back down again.
Right now, Linux and I are living out of my truck.
I’m grateful we at least have a vehicle, but it’s rough. The weather has been dangerous, the tires on the truck are bald, and it’s rear‑wheel drive, which makes winter driving even riskier. We’ve also just had a couple of major expenses hit at once that wiped out what little margin we had. We’re basically working day‑to‑day just to eat and put gas in the tank, with no real way to get ahead or secure a place to live.
I’ve never taken government assistance. I’ve always tried to grind it out – as a sales coach, mentor, and manager I’ve poured into thousands of people over the years and loved watching them succeed. I’m not sharing this to get pity, but I am finally admitting that I can’t climb out of this alone. My life – and my dog’s life – really do depend on getting some help.
What I’m asking for:
1) **Immediate survival and safety**
- Safe tires and basic repairs for the truck so we’re not one breakdown away from being on foot.
- Short‑term shelter (even a cheap room / extended stay) to get us out of the cold and off the street for a bit.
- Food and essentials for me and Linux.
2) **A path to stability**
- Help covering costs so I can accept work opportunities that move us toward a stable living situation, anywhere in the country.
- A buffer to get into a room, small apartment, or shared housing once the right door opens.
I am NOT looking for a lifetime handout. I’m looking for a way out.
I’m willing to travel to where the work is and earn what I can. My skills include:
- Carpentry / light renovations
- Landscaping / outdoor work
- Sales coaching and customer‑service training
- General labor and odd jobs
If you’d rather offer work than a donation, I’m all ears. If you’re close enough for us to reach you, I’ll gladly show up and put in the effort.
Most people, when they hear “homeless,” say, “Just get a job.” I understand that instinct. But when you have no stable address, no bank, a dog who depends on you, and you’re sleeping in a truck, your options shrink fast. You can’t just walk into a 9–5 and pretend everything is normal. We are doing everything we can with what we have, but it’s not enough anymore.
Through all of this, my faith has actually grown. I know this world is dark and often hostile to people trying to walk with God, but I also know He hasn’t left us. We’re grateful for every person who has shown compassion, opened their home, or helped us keep going. You are not forgotten.
If you’re able to help – with a donation, a job lead, a place to park safely, or even just prayer – thank you. And if you don’t have anything helpful to say, I’d simply ask you to keep scrolling.
We’re living in a world that’s hard to navigate with a soft heart. I’m determined to keep mine soft anyway, to keep following Jesus, and to keep loving people wherever we end up.
From me and Linux: thank you for reading, thank you for praying, and thank you for anything you’re able to do to help us find a way forward.
