Hey everybody, hurricane Ida has made some major damages to my parents and my grandparents house. I’m raising money to help with repairs.
Crazy fast winds pulled the roof off the back room so everything in my grandma’s house flooded, allowing water into the front of the house. Walls collapsed in the back trapping a lot of items out of reach.
We did not evacuate, so luckily we were able to grab the computer and all important paperwork, as well as my grandpas oxygen tanks and health equipment and other medicines.
But a lot of my grandparents’ belongings were too far away or trapped under a collapsed wall and it would have been too dangerous to try to reach. Some things will not be repairable - the tvs, the futon, two beds, the shelves and all the books and pictures, my (maternal) grandpas desk that he built before he died, etc. - the entire roof is gone and a lot of debris has been thrown around the area. Some of their belongings were thrown out of the house with the wind.
A metal shed from the neighbors yard flew over the fence, into the pool, out of the pool, over my house (next door) and into my mom’s car (So there’s a huge dent in the side). My car has a huge dent in the back and a couple scratches (Someone’s metal awning flew and landed next to it in the yard across the street).
Crazy dangerous winds. Crazy.
We are unsure of the roof damage on either house right now, but water is leaking from the vents into the kitchen at my house. We won’t be able to tell anything more until the storm passes completely and the sun comes out.
We are a still out of power and surviving at my grandma’s house with a generator, looking for a place selling gas to keep it running.
We’ve tried to save as much as we can and are working to get water out of the house, but we know it’s going to be an expensive journey to fix the extensive damages.
