Help Hunts Brook Farm Build the Wash-Pack-Hold Facility

Donation protected
For years we’ve dreamed of a space that could keep our harvests fresher, our process safer, and our community stronger. With your help, Hunts Brook Farm can finally make that dream a reality.
At Hunts Brook Farm, every seed we plant grows from the same root; we care for the land, nourish our neighbors, and have a deep belief that good food should do good in the world.
Thanks to incredible community support and grant funding, we’re almost there. The long-planned Wash-Pack-Hold Facility will completely transform how we harvest, cool, wash, and store our produce. But like so many small farms facing budget cuts and rising costs, we’re about $50,000 short of finishing the project.

What Your Support Will Help Complete
Your donation is needed to help complete the overall cost of the facility, which includes foundation, concrete pads, roofing, structural framing, electrical systems, and refrigeration.
We’ve already raised $68,000 of our $120,000 goal. Your donation helps reduce what the farm needs to borrow. The closer we get, the less we carry in interest — keeping Hunts Brook Farm able to focus on what matters most: feeding our community and caring for the land.

Why This Project Matters
When complete, the Wash-Pack-Hold Facility will:
• Keep your produce fresher, longer
• Improve food safety and handling
• Boost energy efficiency and reduce waste
• Strengthen our Farm to School partnerships so more students enjoy local vegetables
• Support year-round production and storage for our CSA members, farmers markets, and local food programs

Together, We Can Finish Strong
We’re working hard to complete this project by the start of the 2026 growing season. Please consider donating any amount to help Hunts Brook Farm continue providing healthy, beautiful food that nourishes so many.
Donate today to help us finish the Wash-Pack-Hold Facility and keep Hunts Brook Farm thriving as part of your community.
Every contribution, no matter the size, helps and is received with gratitude.
Thank you for being part of our story, for cheering us on, & for helping us grow food that truly sustains.

Who We Are
Hunts Brook Farm, owned and operated by Robert (“Digga”) Schacht, began as the fulfillment of his father Herb’s lifelong dream. Nearly thirty years ago, Digga was working as a contractor while putting everything he had, his time, energy, and every spare dollar, into building a farm from the ground up. In 2012, all that dedication paid off and he was finally able to become a full-time farmer. What started as one small field, one homemade farm stand, and a big dream rooted in family and community has now become a cornerstone of local food, community, and care.
Since then, Hunts Brook Farm has flourished. Today it spans five acres, including six high tunnels and a small fruit orchard, all cared for by a hardworking, dedicated team. We’re known for our “healthy, beautiful food,” grown with organic methods and deep respect for the land.
Our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) members are at the heart of what we do. Each season, they purchase a market share and shop at our weekly markets using their credit. Together, we keep local food systems strong, sustainable, and community-driven.
Our mission extends far beyond the farm. Digga mentors new farmers, supports community gardens, donates fresh produce to local meal centers, and provides free CSA shares to families in need. One of the things we’re most proud of is our partnership with local schools through the CT Grown for CT Kids program. For over a decade, Hunts Brook Farm has brought farm-fresh food to students and currently partner with six local school districts.
In countless ways, Hunts Brook Farm helps make our little corner of the world healthier, more connected, and more compassionate. With your help, we can keep growing, feeding families, supporting schools, and caring for the land we all share.
