Help Humberto Return to U.S.

Donation protected
Thanks to the political support of U.S. activists, academics and organizations the U.S. Embassy granted Humberto Garces a visa to return to the U.S. Humberto is an Afrocolombian, son of H. Garces Sr., Buenaventura trade unionist. After surviving the attack that murdered his father and left him wounded, Humberto fled to the U.S. where he received asylum. In the U.S. he was an active community activist for social justice causes at the Manuel Zapatta Olivella Center at Wesley UMC. Myself and many others in DC have worked with Humberto over the years.

In 2012, he returned to Colombia to visit when he was abruptly apprehended and placed at La Picota prison under false charges. He was later moved to house arrest thanks to help from the Colombian Senate. After being  exonerated with new evidence that proved his innocence, he is ready to return to the U.S. asap. To do so, given all the time he lost without work, he needs financial support for his ticket and reintegration (ticket foe travel from Cali to DC, initial deposit for one month rent (he will be unemployed at first), food and living  costs for 2 months. We are grateful for any donation that you can give.
