Help Hugo to have a safe summer

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Megan, and I am a mother to a sweet, silly, curious, energetic, and happy 4 year old boy who is diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder.

I am raising funds for a new stroller, or "mobility device" for Hugo because he has long outgrown his 4 year old B.O.B jogger stroller that we bring everywhere in order to keep Hugo safe during our community outings and appointments.

The new stroller that Hugo needs is from the brand Special Tomato, and it it specifically designed for children up to 110lbs who have mild to moderate physical impairments. While Hugo does have low muscle tone (hypotonia) making movement challenging for him sometimes, our main concern during community outings is that Hugo will run off (bolt), and he also requires a safe space to keep his system regulated and calm since unfamiliar places and situations can be especially stressful for him. The stroller is absolutely crucial in order to keep Hugo safe and comfortable so that we can go out and have the same experiences and enjoy the same activities that typical families do!

Here is a breakdown of why some autistic children may need a stroller:

Autistic children may need strollers for safety, sensory reasons, and to support their unique needs. Strollers can help prevent wandering or bolting, provide a safe and predictable space, and offer sensory support in crowded or overwhelming environments.

Safety Considerations:

Wandering/Bolting:
Many autistic children have a weaker sense of danger or may bolt due to sensory overload or anxiety, making strollers crucial for safety and supervision.

Limited Mobility:
Some autistic children may have limited mobility or low muscle tone, making strollers a necessary means of transportation for outings and activities.

Sensory Needs:

Sensory Overload:
Strollers can offer a more controlled and predictable sensory environment, reducing the overwhelm and potential for distress in crowded or noisy places.

Anxiety Relief:
The enclosure of a stroller wagon or a well-designed stroller can provide a sense of security and calm, especially in new or unfamiliar environments.

Movement Preferences:
Some autistic children may have a need for movement, and a stroller can allow them to enjoy the scenery while also providing physical activity.

Thank you so much for reading about my fundraiser and any funds contributed are greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for helping Hugo to have a fun, safe, and memorable summer!
