Hugo Ramirez Memorial Fund

Just over 3 years ago our friend Hugo Ramirez was diagnosed with Cancer that started in the bladder and showed signs of affecting his kidneys. He has been silently battling and recently his journey took a turn that landed him in Hoag Hospital with a very challenging outlook.

Hugo is a husband to Rosie and father of two children Hugo (15 yrs old) and Emma (11 years old). Hugo has been privately battling this diagnosis and condition, but the costs have added up over the past 3 years. His insurance is starting to slow their approval process and there are several things that insurance just doesn't cover and Hugo has gone without. Specialized therapy, holistic treatments and more that he could possibly benefit from. Recently Hugo was admitted to Hoag Hospital in a severe condition. With fluid building up in his abdomen and barely able to keep conscious Hugo has been in the hospital for over a week now (as of 8/14/24). They have been running several tests and he was given a prognosis that was at first extremely negative.

After tests the doctors from Hoag and City of Hope decided that they wanted to try a new medication called Welireg that has shown positive effects in patients like him but it cost nearly $40,000 for one month! Initially the insurance company denied coverage but due to help from City of Hope they have approved the first month trial. Even a week after being admitted he is still having fluids drained and was told that a dialysis program for his one remaining kidney may have to be started in the very near future.

If you are in a position to help please find it in your heart to donate to the Ramirez family. Please add him to your prayers as we all believe it has made a difference amongst our small group of people in the know throughout this journey. To know Hugo is a gift as he is an incredibly kind individual who's integrity and heart make him one of the best people to know and be around. We need to make sure Hugo gets every opportunity available so that he can make a full recovery and beat this horrible disease. Our first goal is to get him home and into an outpatient care program with City of Hope. 100% of the proceeds go directly to the Ramirez family.
