On February 22, 2026 at 5:00 AM, Victoria woke up and instantly knew something was wrong. During her pregnancy, she always felt her baby moving around throughout the night, but that morning something was different: he was completely still. Trusting her instincts, she and her husband Nick rushed to the hospital, where an ultrasound revealed there was no fetal movement. She was immediately rushed for an emergency c-section. Doctors discovered his umbilical cord was tightly wrapped around his neck three times and explained his condition was one of the worst cases they had ever seen. By the grace of God, Hudson Lane Laquidara was born at 36 weeks weighing 5 pounds 15 ounces. If Victoria and Nick had waited any longer, baby Hudson would not have survived. Shortly after Hudson's birth, while Victoria was suffering a postpartum hemorrhage, Hudson turned blue, went limp, and was rushed to the NICU due to seizure activity. He was transported an hour away to All Children’s Hospital where imaging revealed a massive brain hemorrhage. At just 3 days old, Hudson underwent emergency brain surgery. Just days after his brain surgery, Victoria and Nick were called into a conference room and told something no parent should ever have to hear: because of the severity of his brain bleed, they may want to take Hudson home to pass peacefully by their sides. Their world shattered in that moment. But even in the face of unimaginable grief, they refused to give up on their baby boy.
Against all odds, Hudson began to wake up. He started moving, responding, and showing signs of life that he had never shown before. His entire medical team was stunned. The same doctors who had prepared them for the worst returned, repeating that they “love being wrong.” From that moment on, Hudson continued to fight. Day by day, he grew stronger and was finally able to have his breathing tube and PICC line removed, something that once seemed impossible. He quickly became known throughout the NICU as a little celebrity, with nurses and doctors stopping by just to see the baby who was rewriting his own story. After 36 long days in the hospital, Hudson was discharged home, an outcome no one believed was possible. Now Hudson is home and thriving, but his journey is far from over. Due to the severity of the brain injury he suffered, he will need ongoing physical and occupational therapy, continued medical treatment, and additional brain surgeries in the future. This family now faces a long road of appointments, therapies, and mounting medical expenses. Anything that can be given to help support this family and provide comfort and stability in the years ahead is greatly appreciated. All donations will go directly toward Hudson’s care and giving him every opportunity to continue to thrive and beat the odds. He is truly a miracle, and they are forever grateful for the love, prayers, and support surrounding him.
