From the moment Hudson entered our lives, he became one of our four shining stars—a beautiful, healthy baby boy with eyes full of wonder and a smile that could light up any room. His sweet giggles brought immeasurable joy to our home.
As his first birthday quickly approached, our world began to change in ways we couldn’t anticipate. Hudson wasn’t meeting the typical milestones that our other children and typical children were often meeting at his age. This sweet little boy began to disengage from us, leaving us feeling disconnected and helpless. Simple tasks, like transitioning from naps and into different environments, became overwhelming for him. As the world became more difficult to navigate, the more we realized how dependent he is on us.
After many consultations with our pediatrician, she recommended that we should have Hudson evaluated. For over a year and a half, we were waitlisted to have him evaluated. During this long, excruciating time waiting, Hudson was attending occupational and speech therapy. We were grasping at anything that would help him along. Finally, the day came to have Hudson screened for autism, and the results changed our family’s world forever. Hudson was diagnosed with ASD level 3. Hearing the word “autism” felt like our world came crashing down. Watching this innocent boy lie on the doctor’s office floor lining up his toys, I couldn’t help but think about our difficult road that lies ahead.
Autism brings waves of heartbreak and grief, often requiring you to advocate for medical treatment and inclusion beyond belief. Hudson faces challenges that require constant care and attention, with his safety and well-being our top priority, meanwhile being attentive to our four other children’s needs. After extensive research and unwavering commitment to support Hudson, we’ve found a treatment center with proven success stories that have helped other non-speaking children start communicating. But after starting the enrollment process, we have learned that our insurance will not pay for this life-changing therapy/treatment that Hudson desperately needs. As autism is often overlooked and treatment is often deemed unnecessary, therefore, expenses aren’t covered and the pioneers who are invested in helping require upfront payments for initial and all follow-up appointments. Disappointingly, this trip to see this world-renowned doctor is not only out of state but also extremely expensive and beyond our income abilities.
Now, as we just recently celebrated Hudson’s fourth birthday, he remains non-speaking and struggles with understanding and expressing language. Every day is a delicate balancing act of care and vigilance to keep him safe and connected. Without the ability to tell us how he feels or what he needs, we’ve become his interpreters, striving to see the world through his eyes. It’s a challenging journey—emotionally, physically, and financially—but it’s one we are committed to walking alongside him as a family.
Despite the difficulties, we hold to God for our hope. We’ve immersed ourselves in Hudson's development, exploring every therapy, tool, and treatment that might help him take even the smallest steps forward. Each breakthrough, no matter how small, fills our hearts with light. Yet, time feels so precious during these critical early years. Every day, we work tirelessly to provide him with the specialized care he needs, pouring every ounce of love and effort into ensuring he has the best chance to thrive. Every dollar donated will go directly towards ensuring Hudson receives this crucial therapy that we are desperately seeking.
We believe in Hudson—our little superhero that puts in the work each day to do the everyday tasks that often come naturally without thinking for others. We are confident that with the right support and continued prayers, Hudson will find his voice in whatever capacity that may look like.
We humbly and prayerfully ask for your support in helping unlock Hudson to reach his fullest potential. Your kindness, whether through sharing our story, prayers, or generosity, will forever be part of his story. From the depths of our hearts, we thank you for taking the time to read a portion of Hudson’s story. Your compassion means the world to our sweet, beloved superhero!
