Hello my name is Andrea and I'm here to tell my son Hudson Day's story. He has Alport syndrome and is in stage 5 kidney disease and is now facing the options of dialysis for the rest of his life or a kidney transplant. He will start getting regular dialysis treatments which will be 10 consecutive hours of treatment 5 days a week that will help keep him alive but a transplant would offer a better quality of life and the ability to live a longer, healthier more normal life. Finding a kidney for a transplant isn't easy. There's over 100,000+ people on the deceased donor waiting list like him. Time is not on his side.
Some wait for many years and many die while waiting. But another option is receiving a kidney transplant from a living donor. Asking is very difficult for Hudson but it will greatly improve his chances of getting a transplant. A living donor kidney typically lasts longer and has better function . You only need one kidney to live a healthy long life. Most donor surgery is done robotically,
Meaning through small incisions with less pain and a shorter recovery time. The cost of the evaluation and surgery will be covered by his Insurance. Thank you for reading his story, he's only 23 years old and enjoys building computers and gaming, skate boarding, collecting vinyl records and listening to all types of music, building star wars ships with Legos and spending time with family and friends. He's very smart and would love to have a second chance at life. He's Type A+ blood type. I hope my post if anything has brought more awareness of kidney disease and considering being a living donor. I'm here to mainly try and find a living donor for my son. Of course monetary help would be greatly appreciated with his disability. I too am disabled and lost my husband Tommy almost 1 year ago. Things have been very difficult for us. He moved in with me to help me with my disability after my husband passed, now I must help him in anyway I can. Please consider being a living donor or to help Hudson's cause . Thank you for taking the time to read and God Bless
