Help Huck Continue His Fight Against Cancer

First off, thank you. Thank you to anyone taking a moment to read this. Asking for help like this is hard, personal, and uncomfortable.

Huck is my 10-year-old German Shepherd, and he was diagnosed with cancer back in March. When we first got the news, the doctors told me his life expectancy was about three months. But here we are in September, and not only is Huck still with me, he’s thriving. His energy hasn’t faded, and people still ask me when I'm walking him if he's a puppy. He’s still the same goofy, youthful, bark and sniff at the door when he thinks someone is coming in type of dog. His fighting spirit continues to amaze me, and even the vets are shocked by how well his body is responding to treatment.

Unfortunately, the financial reality has caught up with us. Huck’s chemotherapy treatments cost anywhere between $900 and $1,800 every three weeks, depending on the lab work, imaging, and prescriptions he needs at the time. I’ve been covering everything out of pocket (without pet insurance), and after going back and adding up all the invoices since March, the total came out to just under $19,000.

I’ve had to pause Huck’s treatments, not because they aren’t working, but because I simply can’t afford them anymore. It stinks. I hate the thought of taking him off treatment when he's responding so well. And, I'm not a fan of asking for money, but I really can't say I'd do anything for my dog if I don't ask for help.

My goal is to raise enough to cover about six more months of treatment, and relieve some of the financial burden that inherently comes with paying for way more treatments than anticipated. I know this is a big ask. I’ve tried to shoulder the entire cost on my own but I've exhausted everything I have.

To be transparent: we don’t know exactly how much time Huck has left. We’re taking it one week, one month at a time. But as long as Huck’s quality of life is strong, and it still is, I want to keep fighting with him.

I used to say, “I know my dog.” But throughout this process, I’ve learned to say, “I listen to my dog.” And Huck is telling me he’s not ready to stop yet.

Your support gives me the chance to keep making the next right decision for Huck, and then the one after that, because once he’s gone, those decisions are gone too.
