Beloved Hannah recently passed on January 19, 2024, after a difficult battle with cancer. Hannah was mother to Huan and Han, two young queer members of our community who have no other family in Canada. Huan and Han are alone in covering the costs of Hannah’s funeral expenses.
In 2009, Hannah left Vietnam with her two children to Canada to build a new life for her and her kids. Despite having no other family in a foreign land, she managed to take care of her children for the last 15 years. She was full of life and always stayed positive no matter what happened. Hannah was strong, brave, and resilient through navigating a foreign country and a new language on her own for her and her children. It is heartbreaking that she has left so soon. May the memories of her live on in our hearts.
Hannah’s family and community are all devastated by this loss. Having to never have the chance to visit home since moving to Canada, Huan and Han want to give Hannah the memorial she deserves, including a small funeral in Canada and to bring her back home to Vietnam to grieve with extended family and honour Hannah’s memory.
Huan and Han are currently asking for donations to help cover the cost of Hannah’s funeral in Canada and their travel to Vietnam. They hope to raise $10K to be able to help cover some of the funeral service Huan and Han’s travel costs.
The cost associated with the funeral and memorial trip include:
Funeral expense: $7K
Average 2 flights: $3,800
Cemetery plot and bronze memorial: $11K
Please consider donating, as any amount will truly help the family during this difficult time.
