UPDATE July 2:Leihua’s expected release date is currently set for July 11, but that will likely need to be pushed back. She still needs to have her skull replaced, and that surgery isn’t scheduled until August.

Before she can come home, she also has a long road of rehabilitation ahead. She has to relearn how to walk, talk, and feed herself. In addition, she will need a significant amount of medical equipment to safely transition home.

Her husband has been by her side through all of this, missing the last three weeks of the school year to care for Leihua. Because of that, he was unable to accept the summer school position they had been counting on. As a result, he won’t receive another paycheck until the new school year begins. Unfortunately, they had no savings to fall back on, making this already difficult journey even more challenging.

UPDATE APRIL 21: Leihua is still in the ICU. She was able to fight off pneumonia and got her breathing tube out last Friday. She is working with a speech therapist to work on swallowing soft foods and water, and getting her voice back. She still has a stomach infection called C Diff that she is still fighting to get rid of. Once that infection is gone the doctors are going place a shunt in her brain to her stomach that will help the brain drain correctly. She also has a small blood clot caused from one of her IV’s and will need to be on blood thinners for 6-12 months. She’s been communicating to us by whispering, or with hand signals and shaking or nodding her head. She is so strong and fighting so hard, please continue to pray for our Hua

Leihua Pauni age 22 suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm early Thursday morning April 2, 2026 and is currently in surgery she will have a long recovery ahead of her and could use all the help she can get. Hua is married to Kevin and together they have a beautiful 6 month old daughter
