A Mother's Fight for Hope: Help Hoyoun Beat Breast Cancer
Hello, my name is Hoyoun Kim. I am a mother to a wonderful teenage son and a wife to a loving husband. For years, I worked hard to support my family, but now I am facing a battle that has turned our world upside down: breast cancer. The cancer is progressing quickly, and I am in a desperate fight for my life.
The moment I heard the diagnosis, my world stopped. I couldn't sleep for days, and just as I was trying to process the emotional shock, the financial problems hit our family with a second, devastating blow. My doctor Thuy Lee, and my brother-in-law both encouraged me to try a GoFundMe campaign, telling me it could be a lifeline. While it's hard to ask for help, I've come to realize I can't do this alone.
My wonderful medical team, led by Dr. Hansen and Dr. Lee, has been incredibly supportive, both emotionally and by helping us navigate the financial challenges. I am so grateful for all they and their team members, including the financial department, are doing to help me. We have a clear and urgent plan for my treatment, which includes crucial diagnostic tests and chemotherapy. However, we've hit a major financial roadblock. Without insurance, the costs of these immediate next steps are immense. I had to stop working because I already feel weak, and our credit bills are increasing rapidly, adding even more stress to my health crisis.
My loving husband has always been my rock. He doesn't cry much, but I saw him cry when he apologized, saying he was sorry he couldn't do more to cure my cancer. We have tried every way we can to solve this financial problem ourselves, but the costs are simply too great for our family to bear alone.
This financial burden is the only thing standing between me and the treatment I need. The thought of my son growing up without his mother is a fear I cannot live with. I am fighting to be able to continue raising him and to grow old with my husband. Before this diagnosis, I spent my days off volunteering with people with disabilities and gave my Sunday mornings to serving kindergarten children. These acts of service brought me so much joy, and it breaks my heart that I can no longer continue them. But this is another reason I am fighting so hard—to one day be healthy enough to return to serving my community.
Your kindness can be the lifeline my family needs. All donations will go directly toward my medical expenses, helping us pay for crucial diagnostic tests, the first rounds of chemotherapy, and the medications needed to keep me strong.
By helping me, you are helping a family stay together. Please, if you can, consider donating or sharing my story with your network. Every act of support, no matter the size, brings us closer to a future where I am healthy again.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Sincerely,
Hoyoun Kim
