My name is Howin and I'm an LA based DJ and community organizer for close to +10yrs now. A few weeks ago, my home was broken into after being out of town for just a couple days. They destroyed my lock, ransacked every drawer and closet, and left everything in chaos. My DJ equipment, laptop, electronics, sunglasses, shoes, other costly items and deeply personal memorabilia were all stolen.

According to the police, they think the individuals had been casing my place and watching my movements so they could strike at the best time, which they very well did.

The last couple weeks have been filled with mourning, unsettled feelings, frustration, a sense of loss, shame, insecurity and vulnerability (not the good kind!). The things they took weren't just items but keepsakes and possessions I use to create community, that are deeply personal, and are a part of who I am and my craft.

I’m still trying to process the shock and violation of someone invading my home like this. It’s been a bit much to rebuild from that kind of disruption—not just physically but emotionally. I’m doing what I can to recover, but replacing the items and fixing my home is feeling a bit overwhelming to take on.
