Hi, my name is Sophie, and I’m fundraising for my sister Anna’s beloved dog, Howie. Recently, Howie was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive type of bone cancer in his wrist. This type of cancer tragically claimed the life of his sister before her 1st birthday, and it’s genetic. At just 5 years old, Howie is still very young, and we are determined to give him the best chance to fight.

Howie's Journey So Far:

Our first step was to check for any metastasis (spread of the cancer) to his lungs, as that’s where it most commonly spreads. We opted for a CT scan to gather as much information as possible. On July 25, we were relieved to learn that his lungs were clear of any metastasis larger than 1 mm. This news has been a huge blessing, as it gives us more treatment options and extends Howie’s life expectancy.

On July 30, Howie will undergo surgery to amputate his left leg through the shoulder, which will help reduce the cancer’s spread and alleviate his pain. After recovery, he will likely begin 4 rounds of chemotherapy over 12 weeks. We are also planning for him to receive physical therapy, hydrotherapy (Howie loves to swim, so this will be great for his spirit!), and possibly orthotics to help support his remaining front leg.

Why We Need Your Help:

Howie is not just a pet—he’s Anna’s best friend and an incredible support dog. Over the years, my sister has been a tireless advocate for animals, fostering over 45 cats and dogs and volunteering with numerous shelters and rescues. Through it all, Howie has been by her side, providing comfort, companionship, and support to these foster animals. He’s a true foster hero, always there to offer a calming presence and help the animals transition into their forever homes. Anna and Howie have given so much love and care to countless animals, and now they need support.

Every donation brings us one step closer to giving Howie a second chance at a happy, healthy life. It will be a difficult journey, but our hope is for him to live out his remaining days comfortably and active, surrounded by the love he deserves.
