In October 2025, my brother-in-law Howard Duncan’s life was turned upside down when Hurricane Melissa tore through Jamaica. The storm left his home in ruins, and while we are grateful that no lives were lost in our family, the devastation to property was total. Howard now finds himself living in a make-shift shelter, pieced together from the rubble of what was once his house. Access to structured hurricane insurance provision in Jamaica is not accessible to the masses, therefore, he had no insurance to fall back on, and the path to rebuilding is filled with uncertainty and hardship.

The immediate needs are overwhelming—food, medicine, and a safe place to sleep are all in short supply. Howard’s only hope for recovery lies in the generosity of family, friends, and kind-hearted strangers. Every dollar raised will go directly toward purchasing building materials so Howard can construct a livable space on his lot. Our goal is to help him create a safe, stable environment now, and lay the foundation for a future home where he can rebuild his life with dignity.

I am the last person to ask for help, but I’ve learned that I can’t do this alone. I’ve started this fund to help Howard move forward.
