Many of you may know Charmaine Jackson. If you don’t know her personally, you have likely heard her name, or have a Mrs. Jackson in your life. She is a go-to person in her community and is always the first to help a person in need. She has paid it forward for years. And now is the time to show that we have her back in return.
On Thursday evening, May 19, 2022. Mrs. Jackson, who lives on Langston Place in southeast Washington, DC, wiped tears from her eyes as she watched the fire department rush into her home as smoke poured out of her windows. “We lost everything”, she said as she tried to compose herself and the firefighters left her building. What the fire didn't get was ruined by smoke and water. She lost everything - clothes, appliances, and furniture. Authorities responded to the apartment fire around 6 pm – the result of a grease fire. Luckily, Mrs. Jackson and her family were not home at the time and there were no injuries. The whole building had to be evacuated.
Mrs. Jackson was at work when the fire occurred, supporting youth in the Woodland Terrace community at the Exodus Homework Club.
Please give what you can and share this fundraiser with people in your community. Mrs. Jackson will use the money to pay a security deposit for a new apartment and purchase all the basic necessities. Let’s show her that the village has her back, just as she has ours.
