HELP MULUK RELOCATE

Hi, I’m Muluk! I'm a 19 year old Black non-binary person, survivor, writer, and organizer. I’ve been active as an organizer for several organizations and local campaigns, most recently for Rep Ilhan Omar and Sonia Neculescu.
I'm gathering resources to make a move to Chicago
where I can make a life in a safe environment after experiencing houselessness and access the medical care I need as a disabled person, and asking my community to help give towards relocation, rent, furniture, and funds toward tuition.
I don’t like asking for money but with the state of the world, it’s become my only option. As a person with disabilities, stability and competent medical care is life giving. That’s why I’m asking my communities to show by up for me. I’m tired, and this is hard for me to do. Despite this year, I believe the world and people are inherently good, and trust that my community will show up.
This last year, I’ve experienced the range of Minneapolis's injustices from surviving rape, to experiencing violent racism in my own home. Since I moved out at 18, I’ve been supporting myself as a young person without savings; I quickly went into debt because as we all know, being poor, Black and disabled is expensive.
I was escaping an abusive household and went to live with a former boss, who I thought would be safe. When I started living there, I realized it was unsafe, unsanitary and managed by a landlord who was violently racist. Our living room had flooded and was left with water for over two months. Our bathroom didn’t work for months. We didn’t have heat in the winter. When our landlord wanted to sell the house, he asked us to leave, and we refused, knowing we’d become houseless. So he could sell and make more money, he took us to eviction court - a young Black folks against a landlord and an expensive lawyer. Unsurprisingly, the rich won and now we have an eviction on our record, making it impossible to find housing in the Twin Cities.
In Chicago, I have a chance to live in a safe environment and access the medical care I need as a disabled person - which is why I’m asking my communities to support me in gathering resources for moving, rent, furniture, and tuition. One of my closest friends has invited me to live with her in a safe place, and I could finally have the space to heal without fear of debt or violent racism. I’m asking you, my communities, to help me imagine a future filled with joy and support. After the trauma of being Black in Minneapolis, I deserve a fresh start with people I trust. Thank you for reading and donating any amount you can.
I’ve included a breakdown of costs for transparency so you can see how each donation brings me closer to safe housing in Chicago with the resources to find a job and continue school.
