Help Hossein Fight Against SMA: A Rare and Debilitating Disease

Hossein, a 3-year-old boy, was diagnosed with SMA type 2. The SMA represents a group of genetic (inherited) neuromuscular disorders that cause certain muscles to become weak and waste away (atrophy).

The Challenge

SMA involves the loss of specific type of nerve cell in one's spinal cord called lower motor neurons, of anterior horn cells. Followings are the symptoms of SMA:

Progressive muscle weakness

Hypotonia and areflexia

Jerky movements

Joint contractures
