Help Horseshoe Island Camp Rebuild

Donation protected
I am Ian’s niece and started this go fund me, on behalf of my uncle and his family.

On October 10 2024, a fire broke out at the main home of Horseshoe Island Camp in Matachewan, Ontario. Owners and operators Ian and Linda Rider and Kylie Martel lost their home, all possessions and the family cat, Holly. Along with all personal belongings, they also lost vital equipment for the business as well as the camp store structure. This includes clothing, valuables; sentimental items and all furniture and appliances. Nothing was salvageable from the debris. Ian lost the equipment he uses to make a living at the camp including generators, diving and marine equipment, fishing gear and more.

Due to the remote location of the camp, the fire department was unable to reach the camp and help fight the fire for an hour. This left Ian fighting the fire himself attempting to save a home that has been in the family since 1976 and his livelihood. Ian spent 6 days in the ICU including 5 days on a ventilator. He suffered third degree burns to his left hand, face and back. These injuries also mean that Ian cannot work his winter job while the camp is closed and he recovers.

Our goal is to raise as much as possible so the Rider family can get through this difficult time, rebuild their home and business in preparation for next season and begin to replace the insurmountable loss. No donation is too little and we hope you can share this campaign as much as possible.
