Help Horacio’s Family After Their Sudden Loss

As many of you may have heard, our beloved friend and coworker Horacio Alvarez suddenly passed away during the night this past Sunday July 25th, 2021.

His death has come as a shock to all of us within the Trader Joe’s family who have had the pleasure of working with him over the years. Horacio started his career with Trader Joe’s on August 15th, 1992, and after a short break with the company he returned to the East Bay Area and served his community since March 6th, 2010.

Horacio came to the states from El Salvador many years ago to make a better life for his family. He was well known within our stores for being an honest, hardworking, family guy, who would drop what he was doing to support his fellow crew.

He had a great sense of humor, a heart of gold, and made the best guacamole any of us have ever had!

As a collective community of Trader Joe’s crew members and essential workers, we are working to raise these funds to support Horacio’s family as they navigate life without him. At the time of his passing his wife and two children were visiting family in El Salvador, and with the expenses of plane flights/funeral arrangements, we want to do what we can to help them recoup.

Horacio was a beloved father, husband, uncle, brother, son, friend, coworker, and essential worker. Throughout the pandemic he served the community of El Cerrito at Store 108, and rarely missed a day, always putting his best foot forward to support his family.
