Help Hope Thrive: Tracheostomy Survivor

Meet beautiful Hope and the amazing Layna Family…

Since the day of Hope’s birth, the hospital has been all this family has known. Hope has faced more challenges than many of us will ever know, yet through it all, this family has never lost hope for their little Hope.

Hope, who is 3 years old, was diagnosed with HIE (Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy). Hope’s diagnosis came after her sweet mother, Elisabeth, was giving birth at the hospital, and the babies distress was not recognized by any of the medical providers. As her sweet mama kept pushing, Hope was left without oxygen to her brain.

This diagnosis, and the lack of oxygen and blood flow to the brain, would mean that Hope was left with brain damage, seizures, the inability to swallow, and it would mean that she would need a g-tube placed in her abdomen.

In 2023 Hope was hospitalized 5 times in 5 months resulting in weeklong to month long stays.

In January 2024 Hope suffered from 2 infections and was transported to the ICU for an emergency tracheostomy on February 1st.

Hope and her wonderful family have chosen to see the beauty in this situation and see each day as a gift and blessing.

It is hard to ask for help, even under the hardest circumstances. Hope’s family needs the community’s help more than ever.

Currently Hope’s parents, Elisabeth & Jonny, are taking a month away from work so they can be trained on how to care for their daughter after her tracheostomy surgery.

With Jonny being out of work this month he will lose his income of $6,000, and they are quickly going through their savings account. Additionally, they have already faced significant medical bills from Hope’s frequent medical stays.

Each day for 1 month they will travel from Menifee to San Diego to learn how to care for their daughter’s new condition.

A $5 donation would help them with filling their car with a gallon of gas.

A $40 donation could help Hope’s family pay for 1 adaptive toy that she needs for her recovery.

A $9.49 donation would help the family pay for medical gloves they regularly pay for to assist with taking care of Hope.

Hope’s family recently paid $200 for a therapy bench. Any amount of a donation would assist the family in paying this bench off.

Additionally, Hope's family is looking into stem call treatments that can cost $6500-$7500 per treatment.

Hope, her mom, and dad, show us all what it means to face adversity head on and with a smile. Her mom and dad have spent countless hours in the hospital dedicating their whole life to Hope while also caring for their other children. Any money or assistance to help them would be so appreciated and there is not a donation that is too big or small.
