Support independent radio for Somalia

Hope Radio Somalia will be an independent and interfaith radio channel. Something which is not possible in a jihadist country like Somalia. This is why the radio channel will operate from Uganda.

Somalia is the most dangerous country in Africa for journalists. My colleague, journalist Daud Abdi Daud, lives in exile in Kampala, Uganda. He is Secretary General of the Somali Media for Environment, Science, Health and Agriculture (SOMESHA) and kept receiving constant intimidations from both Islamic groups and soldiers from the federal government. One of the reasons is that Daud is not a Muslim, but chooses to be a Christian. It is not safe for him to stay at home with his family.

In Kampala, he stays with his friend and colleague Ismail Sheikh Khalifa who is in the same position. In his case, threats were carried out; Ismail still is recovering from a car explosion almost half a year ago.

Both journalists want to start an independent interfaith radio online for the citizens of Somalia. All they need is some equipment for recording, a camera and two laptops. For only €1000,- ($1200,-) the two journalists can start Hope Radio Somalia. A chanel where everyone’s vision and religion is welcome.
