Help, Hope & Healing for Tim LaPosa

Early morning on March 16th Tim suffered an event at home causing considerable confusion and injuries falling out of bed. He was taken by ambulance to Fairview Ridges hospital and later transferred to the U of M.

Tim spent a month in the ICU. Over the course of his stay in the hospital he suffered 4 cardiac arrests and a stroke. His kidneys shut down requiring daily dialysis in attempts to fight off fluid build-up adversely affecting his lungs and heart. Subsequently, he got an infection in his lungs and blood and he is still fighting pneumonia.

Tim received a balloon pump and 6 stents over 2 long procedures. He was on ECMO which is a life support machine doing the work for his heart and lungs.

Hoping to avoid a tracheotomy, the decision was made that it was necessary, so on April 12th he had that surgical procedure. He had been on a ventilator for so long the doctors were concerned about scar tissue and narrowing of the airway.

Tim is now in intermediate care but he has a long road ahead of him. The plan is to ween him off the trach and continue physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. He will be transitioning into a long term care facility as soon as a bed is available. Of course ultimately the plan is to get him strong enough to go home.

Traci has been by his side from the beginning. With both of them suddenly not working and mounting medical expenses, the financial burden is overwhelming.
