Help Hope Heal: Heartworm Treatment & Rescue

A few days ago, my husband saw a post about a pitbull mix in Louisiana named Hope. He looked at me and said: “Please don’t fight this… we need this dog.” And honestly, he was right.

Hope is around 3 years old, incredibly sweet, and despite everything she’s been through, she still loves people. We were preparing to bring her home when we received difficult news from the vet: on top of her past injuries from a hard life—puncture wounds, old bite wounds, and being abandoned—Hope is also heartworm positive. For many rescue dogs, that diagnosis becomes the reason they get overlooked. But we don’t want her story to end there.

We want to give a sincere thank you to Scott’s Wish/Mardi Paws, who are covering all of Hope’s initial veterinary care in Louisiana, including her vaccines, medications, and spay surgery. We are incredibly grateful for their support in getting her stabilized and ready for the next step of her journey.

Hope has already begun treatment with doxycycline and will continue her heartworm protocol once she arrives home. The next step is safely transporting her to Michigan so we can continue her recovery and care.

We have experience with medically needy dogs already—from surgery recovery to chronic allergy management—and we are fully prepared to give Hope the calm, structured environment she needs while healing. Our home is already being prepared with gates, quiet spaces, enrichment activities, and recovery plans to help her succeed.

While the rescue is generously covering her care in Louisiana, we are personally taking on transport and her continued medical care once she is with us. Between transport costs, heartworm treatment, ongoing vet visits, and recovery supplies, the expenses are adding up quickly. Hope is high heartworm positive and needs to receive the (3) fast-kill injection protocol estimated to be around $1,500-$2,100.

If you’re able to donate, share, or simply follow Hope’s journey, we would be deeply grateful. Every bit of support helps us give this sweet girl the safe, healthy future she deserves.

We’ll continue sharing updates throughout her journey—from transport day, to treatment milestones, to the day she’s finally healthy enough to run freely again.

Thank you for helping us bring Hope home.
