When most people think of the Bahamas, they think of white sand beaches and clear blue waters—an island paradise. What most people don’t see is that just a mile or two inland—on much of the island—people are hurting. Many people live in poverty; in houses that are in disrepair, and in unsafe neighborhoods. The cost of living is high, and food prices make providing for a family very difficult. Many neighborhoods don’t have access to running water and residents must go to a pump for clean water to drink, cook, and bathe daily. This is a far cry from what vacationers to the big hotels and casinos witness upon visiting Nassau… But it is the reality for many who live there.
iYes Foundation is a non- profit, Christian organization that works to impact the youth of the Bahamas by encouraging, empowering, and motivating through, education, recreation, and sports. This year, they will begin breaking ground on a facility that will house 60 missionaries, and open doors for more people to visit and impact the Bahamian people with the love of Jesus.
This summer, our church, Compass Community Church will be joining iYes to be the hands and feet of Jesus, and to show love and hope to the lost and hopeless. We will be working on the building project itself and serving the members of the community through outreach.
As a Christ follower, I feel called to serve the people of the Bahamas alongside my family at Compass. As one who lived as a missionary kid for nearly 5 years in Montego Bay, Jamaica, I believe the Lord has led me to this opportunity. I am humbled and excited to be part of the hands and feet of Jesus in a community so much in need of His love.
I want to invite you into the amazing opportunity of impacting the hearts of the people I will encounter with love of Jesus. I am first asking for prayer. Please pray that I would rely on and trust in the Lord for His provision and protection during this journey. I am also asking that you consider donating to help me meet my goal of $1,300 for the trip. Would you prayerfully consider supporting me in this journey? In amount that you can give will help, and go far in ministering to the beautiful people of the Bahamas. If you would prefer to give with another method, please contact me directly. Thank you in advance for your prayers and support!
