HELP, HOPE, AND A NEW HEART FOR DOUG

Our friends Doug and Kourtnei St Souver are facing financial difficulties as Doug has been actively placed on the Heart Transplant list. Doug’s journey started in 1998 when he experienced Valve Replacement surgery. In 2012 he faced the need of a second Valve Replacement and Pacemaker/Defibrillator Implant. In 2020 a second Pacemaker/Defibrillator was placed. It worked great until February of 2023, where the heart actually needed defibrillation for the first time. Beginning in September his heart began to weaken at a quicker rate, which meant a greater need for medical intervention. At that time, discussion was had that a transplant would be necessary within a couple of years. Doug’s decline has progressed so significantly that he has been admitted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he will stay until their expert team finds a match and the transplant can occur.

We are sharing Doug’s story with you because, as of today, he has been out of work since the end of March and will not return. Kourtnei is working with her team to cover as much as possible until he is released after the transplant, where she will then need a minimum of 6 weeks dedicated to his recovery. Insurance will cover a large portion of this lifesaving procedure. That said, day to day expenses have already begun to add up very quickly and Doug faces a lifetime of rejection meds in addition to many follow up hospital visits.
