**Update 13.**
Hope had her surgery, and it went well. They removed a large portion of her upper hip bone that did not unite and had started to die, causing an infection to spread around her body. She was admitted for up to 10 days for recovery. I have visited her twice since she has been inside, and she seems to be making a remarkable recovery. She is happy and looking healthy. With any luck, they may not need the full 10 days in the hospital! I am very excited about that. The costs have been skyrocketing since I found her, and all the help is much appreciated. The initial cost was about 50,000 pesos, but with all the rehab and other visits, we are now pushing almost 100,000 pesos.

**Update 12:**
Hope needs to have a surgery tonight to remove the screw. Her bone is infected and they need to keep her in the hospital for up to 10 days. This is just about as much as I can take right now. I'm very stressed out about everything and including my own health, Lord, give me the strength to go through all of this and watch over my dog !! I feel defeated !!
**Update 11:**
Hope went through physiotherapy today and did quite well. She had electrostimulation to help get the muscles working again in her leg, and then we walked home afterward. I'm also having her do some obstacle courses in the house to help strengthen her leg as the doctor recommended.

**Update 10:**
Today, Hope went to the hospital because she was very swollen. They did X-rays and bloodwork, removed her stitches, and gave her one stitch to close the wound on her upper back. She was given a bunch of medications to treat her infection and to kill off the tick illness she has from living on the streets. She's on stronger pain meds now and was also given treatments for parasites. They gave me tips on how to clean her wounds, and I am to follow up with them on Wednesday to see how she's doing. I also have to take her to rehabilitation for her leg so that she can start making use of it again. Her road to recovery is still long, but I feel that we are on the right track. I will attach photos of today's X-rays.

**Update 9:**
Hope's leg has swollen to three times the size of her good leg. I went to the vet today, and they advised wrapping it tightly to help move the liquid out of her leg. I'll need to keep an eye on her, and on Monday, I'll have to take her back to the vet or possibly to the hospital if there's no improvement. Her poor leg looks so swollen. I hope she won't lose her leg! I'll attach photos from today.

**Update 8:**
Hope is making a great effort in her recovery. She is able to limp around on her three legs, although I am concerned about her injured leg as it shows zero signs of movement. However, her attitude is very hopeful. She is no longer taking her pain medications as directed by the vet and she seems to be doing okay. She's eating a lot and drinking, although not as much as I would like. Since she was a street dog, maybe this is normal. She still has a drainage area on the top of her back to allow the remaining infection to drain out, but the drainage is decreasing each day. She is on antibiotics twice a day, and I am keeping the wound area dressed and wrapped with a special cream to prevent further infection. She looks ten times better than she did when I first found her. She's even got some toys now, although she's not using them. Stay tuned for more updates.
**Update 7:**
It's been almost a week since I found Hope, and it's been a challenging time for both of us. Early this morning, she became quite active and ended up reopening her stitches, requiring me to rush her to another vet. The vet I usually go to was closed for three days, so I had to find an alternative. I contacted Vet Care, a 24/7 hospital here in Vallarta. Due to financial constraints from her previous surgeries, I could only afford to have her stitches re-done and cleaned before returning home.
Today, she had her first bowel movement under my care. She seemed very energetic afterward, which worried me about her stitches, but she eventually calmed down after about 30 minutes. She's showing positive signs of recovery and has been prescribed new medications and antibiotics to help with her infection. I'm hopeful that within the next week, she'll be able to do some light walking or movement outside of her cage, pending the vet's approval.
It's been an exhausting week, and I look forward to a time when I won't need to watch her every minute for fear of her getting too hyper and hurting herself. I want to thank everyone who's taking the time to read about her progress and a big thank you to those contributing to her recovery costs. Please continue to check back for more updates and photos of her journey to recovery.
**Update 6:**
Hope's condition took a turn for the worse while she was in the hospital, prompting me to seek another vet's immediate assistance. This new vet acted swiftly to address and correct the issues caused by the previous hospitalization, including draining infection fluids that had accumulated inside Hope. She underwent emergency surgery, and although her condition was critical, the new vet's expertise undoubtedly saved her life.
I'm deeply grateful for the new vet's intervention and for allowing me to be present during the critical procedures. I was able to assist in any way possible, including during the surgery to close her open wound. Now, I'm responsible for administering injections and changing her bandages daily as part of her ongoing treatment, which includes antibiotics and pain medications.
Hope's recovery journey is ongoing, and I've updated more photos at the bottom of the page to share her progress.
**Update 5:** Hope still has to stay in the hospital she has Anemia and anaplasma and they are doing blood work to make sure she is well enough to come home. With any luck she should be home in the next few days. It has been a very expensive ordeal :( But I will not give up on Hope!
**Update 4:** Hope seems sad. I visited her again today, and she got so excited to see me that she ended up throwing up. After the visit, I got a tag made for her, a kennel/cage for her to recover in, some food, and puppy pads. I'm very excited for her to come back home tomorrow! Added more Photos Below
**Update 3:** Hope's surgery involved cutting part of her ball joint at the end of her leg bone as well as using screws and plates. The doctor said she will still be able to walk without a problem, but I'm concerned because I believe that part of the bone is essential for leg movement and socket function. I hope she won't experience much pain and will be able to walk okay without too much of a limp. The veterinary team will send more photos of the surgery procedure. I have included the photos that were sent.
**Update 2:**
Hope (I chose her name) was rescued by me from the street and taken by a very kind police officer to the 24H vet and she received care at the Centro Medico Veterinario in Puerto Vallarta. She underwent X-rays and various other treatments, as she was anemic and needed a blood transfusion. Additionally, she was covered in ticks and requires treatment for a blood-borne illness. Unfortunately, her leg was broken in three places due to a hit and run. The costs unexpectedly rose significantly due to the severity of her injuries. Despite not having much money, I managed to raise the required 37,000 pesos, thanks to my generous family, to cover the entire service. This post serves as a reminder that people can care for others and animals with whom they have no prior connection. (However, I have grown quite fond of her during our first night together.)
I am posting this to raise funds to repay my family, who generously helped me save this dog's life. Even though there will be more costs associated with her recovery, I plan to see it through. I decided to keep her as my pet and named her Hope. Any donations received will help repay my family and cover her recovery costs, including necessary pet items (as I have never owned a dog before). I appreciate the support and comforting words from everyone in the Facebook groups. It has been an emotional journey, and I HOPE Hope recovers from her surgery tomorrow.
**Update: 1.**
I flagged down a policeman, and he informed me that there hadn't been a Patrol Verde for the last two months. I asked if he could transport the animal to an open vet, and we brought her in for an examination and some medicine, which cost 655 pesos. We decided to take her to a more affordable place for the X-ray and potential surgery if her leg was broken. The problem is I don't have much money and feel almost helpless if she needs surgery. The vet said she isn't in severe pain and that her injury is fixable. They wouldn't even consider putting her down (I wouldn't have wanted that, but I had to ask in case the damages were too severe). They recommended a few other less expensive clinics. However, I'm curious to know what others recommend for cost-effective treatment. I may have to set up a fund program if the costs are too high. I can't bear to see her suffer . I feel like I'm doing the right thing, even though it's something I can barely afford, but I couldn't leave her to die on the street. If anyone has information or wants to help, please message me. I would be more than grateful. Including photos of her at the vet.
Original Post asking for help.
This dog was hit by a truck and is in pain. I don't have the means to help her. I give her food and water, but she can't move her back legs. I'm unsure what to do. She's also bleeding when she moves. One of the locals called 911, and they're sending Patrol Verde, but I'm here with her. I don't know what else I can do . She's at the Oxxo.
I am Canadian-born but reside in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. They would not allow me to change the funding to Mexican pesos; however, the total is equivalent to the cost associated in pesos. The money will go back to the family members, and anything extra will be sent to my account in Mexico to cover any additional costs that may arise during her recovery. Thank you in advance!
