Help honor the life of Laura Mendez - the BEST MOM EVER.

Story

Friday, May 9, I woke up to the news that my brother Alex had found my mother lying on her bedroom floor, unable to move or call for help - her phone just inches from her hand on her nightstand. She was rushed to UCLA Reagan where doctors said she had suffered a major stroke and the damage was catastrophic and inoperable. She fought for four days, as pastors from three churches prayed for her, and friends and family came to her side. She could hear us, and she could squeeze our hands, but she couldn't speak or open her eyes. Her 95-year-old mother flew in from Mexico. Together, we prayed for a miracle. Then on Monday, May 12, she passed peacefully. And we realized that the miracle was being able to spend one last Mother's Day with her, holding her, singing to her, and praying over her, united as a family. My mom was THE BEST mom we could ever ask for. Kind, giving, loving, joyful. Larger than life. A true angel who worked tirelessly to give her children a better life. She cleaned houses to pay for our Catholic school education, sending me to Yale, my brother to Pepperdine, and giving us all a chance to make our dreams come true. She was also the BEST GRANDMOTHER to my children Kat and Fox. Many of you have reached out to ask how you can help and if you can send food, money, or flowers. I've set up this page to help direct any donations to my father, Javier Mendez, to help pay for cremation costs, memorial costs, and hospital bills. Any donation would be greatly appreciated, whether it's $10, $20, $50 or whatever is in your heart to give. My mom touched so many lives with her "si se puede" attitude and her love and encouragement. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The memorial service will be a month from now in Los Angeles, and we will post updates here as we finalize the arrangements. On behalf of my father Javier, my brother Alex, and my brother Xavier, we thank you for holding us in your prayers.
