It is with unimaginable heartbreak that we share the loss of Juan Carlos Gonzalez Arreguin, known to many as Charlie or Cali. On April 7th, 2026, my father’s life was taken from us in a senseless act of violence. He was simply walking a short distance from his home to take out his recycling, something so ordinary, so routine, and he never came back. Knowing how suddenly and unfairly his life was taken has left our hearts shattered in a way we can’t fully put into words.
He was born on March 29th, 1972, in Guadalajara, Mexico. His life was not always easy, he faced hardship at a young age and was raised by his loving grandparents, Cristina Arreguin and Jesus Gonzalez, who became his guiding light. Through everything he endured, he grew into a man full of kindness, strength, and compassion.
He was a proud father to myself (Jasmine) and Eileen, and in recent years, he found a new kind of happiness in becoming a grandfather to his precious granddaughter, Emilia. She brought so much light into his life, and he loved her deeply. He was the kind of person who worked hard without complaint, who showed up for others, and who carried a gentle, generous spirit wherever he went.
He had a rare gift, he could meet anyone once and speak to them like an old friend. He was the kind of person who turned strangers into friends in a matter of minutes. From the moment you met him, he made you feel comfortable, like you’d known him your whole life. He carried a warmth that made everyone he met feel like they belonged.
Like many, he had some rough moments in his life, But what truly defined him was his strength and his ability to grow. He made the choice to turn his life around, choosing a more peaceful and fulfilling path. He worked hard to build a better life, In the most recent years, he had built a peaceful life for himself in Rosarito, enjoying the simple things and finally finding moments of joy and calm.
That is why this loss feels so unbearable. We were not prepared for this. No family ever is. We are asking for help to give our father the farewell he deserves and to ease the financial burden that comes with such an unexpected tragedy. Every donation, no matter how small, means more to us than we can express.
We hope to fulfill his final journey by sending him home to Zacatecas, Mexico, where he will be buried beside his parents. If you are unable to give, it’s completely understandable but we kindly and humbly ask that you please share this and keep our family in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you for your support during one of the most painful times of our lives.
With gratitude,
The Family of Juan Carlos Gonzalez Arreguin
