Help Honor the Life and Legacy of Peter Strummer
Donation protected
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Peter Strummer — a formidable figure in the opera world, beloved husband, mentor, and friend, and a man whose artistry, humor, and generosity touched countless lives across the globe.
Peter’s career was nothing short of legendary. He was America's quintessential basso-buffo, with over 120 major roles, eight world premieres, and thousands of performances at the world’s leading opera houses. The "Kevin Bacon of Opera", Peter brought countless characters to life with nuance, passion, and a signature spark that left audiences forever changed over the past five decades.
Beyond his unmistakable voice and stage presence, Peter was known for his booming laugh, encyclopedic memory, profound polyglottic prowess, boundless curiosity, and deep generosity. He leaves behind a lasting imprint through music, mentorship, friendship, and joy.
Peter is survived by dramatic soprano Linda Roark-Strummer, their mischievous Russian Blue cat Mitya, and a legion of students and colleagues who carry his memory with them. His departure leaves a void that words cannot fully express.
If Peter's life or work ever touched you, please consider making a donation. Any amount is greatly appreciated as we honor his memory and the legacy he leaves behind.
Let us come together as the community that Peter gave so much to. Whether you saw him perform, studied under his guidance, or simply admired his extraordinary career, your support is deeply appreciated.
Please share this campaign widely, and thank you for helping us say goodbye to this irreplaceable artist, mentor, and friend.
