Help Honor Ron Battani's Legacy

Dearest family, friends, and former students of Ron Battani,

With heavy hearts we are saddened to report that Saturday night January 11, our beloved father, Ron, passed away at age 79. He endured a six month fight with shingles, and after a fall, a three-month stay in the hospital that wore his body and mind down to nothing. We are beyond devastated and trying our best to sift through Dad's finances in order to fulfill his wishes for his burial in Iowa, and suddenly have found ourselves slapped in the face with terrible discoveries.

Our trusting, loyal Dad was scammed twice out of his life savings: once by a phishing scheme, and secondly by someone he met in Vegas who pretended to be a friend and lawyer investing Dad's money. This man had Dad take endless loans out, max out credit cards, refinance his mortgage, and drained all his cash, savings and checking accounts, saying every cent would be paid back immediately. The man is a known con-artist, so we reported it to everything possible, including law enforcement.

We learned of all of this too late, and are guessing it's over $100k that Dad lost just from this man alone. Bottom line: Dad was in tremendous debt from these horrendous things, and had no money set aside for his wishes after-life. Ironically, Dad constantly contributed and tithed what he could to tons of charities, from help for veterans to children's hospitals. He deserves better.

If Dad made some kind of difference in your life, please consider donating or tithing toward him to help his family take care of his final wishes. We know there are so many horrible things going on in the world and hesitate asking for a single cent, but have little choice. So whether it's five cents or five dollars, know that we are so grateful, and it will directly to his legacy.
