Help Honor Pops: Support His Journey Home to Rest

On March 25, 2025, our beloved elder Harold Williams, Jr. (affectionately known as Pops) passed away peacefully in his home in Groton, Vermont, with his son Khonsu by his side. He was 82.

Harold was a Vietnam War veteran who fought Agent Orange-related illness for decades, always with kindness, gratitude, and love. In recent years, he was cared for full-time by Khonsu and Titan, his chosen family, who moved to Vermont with him in 2021 to support and care for him full-time.

Their care allowed Harold to live his final years with dignity. He was a joyful, familiar face in Vermont—whether at the Groton Free Public Library, Black cultural events in Vermont, the queer arts festival, and anywhere local he could buy a sweet treat.

Why We’re Asking for Help

Khonsu and Titan urgently need support to bring Harold’s cremains (and themselves) to the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies near Pittsburgh, where his final wishes will be honored with a military funeral and celebration of life on Monday, July 14—one day after his birthday.

When Harold passed, Khonsu and Titan lost all legal rights related to Harold, and his wife (estranged for the last 3 years), has refused to support the process of laying Harold to rest in the ways he himself requested. As a result, they have had to go to court to fight for their right to manage Harold’s remains and plan a funeral that honored his wishes. They have also had to pay out of pocket for all related expenses as they cannot access any of his life insurance funds dedicated to this purpose, covering the full mortgage on the house on their own. Now, they need our help to get him there.

About Harold (Pops)

Harold was a fixture in Vermont’s local life. He thanked everyone who cared for him, but the truth is: he took care of all of us. When Harold was diagnosed with dementia, he empowered Khonsu and Titan to be his legal caretakers. They moved with him to Vermont, purchased a home together, and devoted their lives to keeping him safe, joyful, and dignified until his passing. Due to family disputes and estate barriers, they’ve had to fight in court to carry out Harold’s final wishes—successfully securing the right to plan the funeral he wanted. Now, they need our help to get him there.
