My grandma was my whole world. She took my brother and me in and raised us from the time we were newborns, stepping in when my mom couldn't. She had the biggest heart and would help anyone who asked. Her smile could light up a room, and her laugh was truly infectious. She was the kind of person who made every day better just by being there, and I am so grateful for the love and care she gave us.
On Tuesday, January 27th, she became very sick with low blood sugar—she was a diabetic—and we rushed her to the ER. She was transferred to Mosaic in St. Joseph, MO, where she also struggled with low blood pressure. The next day, she wanted to come home, and the hospital let her go. She seemed okay at first, but early the next morning, her condition changed. My mom and I tried to help her, and when things got worse, we called for an ambulance. I told her I loved her, and she told me she loved me too. Just moments later, she became unresponsive in my arms. The paramedics did everything they could, but she passed away on January 29th.
We used the last of our resources on her insulin the night before she passed. Now, we're struggling to cover the costs of her funeral and burial. If we have anything left, we hope to get her a headstone. I've never been good at asking for help, but anything you can give would mean so much to us. If you can't donate, I completely understand—just keeping us in your thoughts and prayers is a gift. Thank you to everyone who can help. My grandma was an amazing woman who deserves to be remembered, and we're just hoping to give her a simple, loving farewell.
