My dad is passing away from dementia and only has days or weeks to live. I am dealing with a terrible family tragedy, with my dad declining rapidly. He may not make it through the holiday. We are raising funds to help cover the costs of moving my dad to NYC, where he wished to be laid to rest, as well as funeral expenses and the wake so his family can say goodbye. We only have some funds in savings and are asking for help to give him the farewell he deserves.
Thank you to all my family, family of friends, and neighbors who have reached out to me with kindness, advice, and support. My beautiful, amazing, and calm husband Jason is with me to get us through this. You have given us the best life, Pop! Even in your last days of this terrible dementia, you thought you had to work nights to support us, fighting your mind and body, telling Mom you need to get to work like when you drove a yellow taxi. You always told me to put myself in others' shoes, study and work hard, never give a f what others think about you, to be kind, and most of all, just enjoy life—it is short. You had your challenges with addiction, and you overcame them. You would talk to everyone and always make everyone feel good. A man whose strength was abound, seeming so frustrated you can't run to the gym, walk a mile in a minute, or eat with us like it was our last meal. You have the biggest heart and the sweetest demeanor. We fought a lot over your addiction and stubbornness, but when you defeated the demons, I saw how special you are. My heart breaks this Christmas that our time is short, but you will live on in all I do. I wish I had given you grandkids, but you loved Jason as your own son. This will be the worst holiday for us, but I'll never give up on all that I promised you. We will take care of Mom. She's a strong woman. Radar is waiting for you, as are others we have lost together. My generous, strong, and hilarious dad—we will always love you and live a life you taught us would make us happy, not just for ourselves but for others too. These final days or weeks will be horrible, but I know you are now safe. Love you, Pop, forever. I will never give up, Dad. I will never let you down.
Any support you can give means so much to us. Thank you for being there for our family.
