Help Honor Mike Smith's Final Journey
Donation protected
My name is Melanie and I'm creating this fund for my uncle, Mike Smith.
Mike was a hard working blue collar guy for Joy for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing on his boat, camping and even enjoyed a few hockey games with his son before his health declined a few years ago.
The beginning of April, he had an exacerbation of his COPD and was admitted to the hospital. After a couple days with no improvement, the doctor decided the next move would be to intubate him and sedate him to give his body and lungs a chance to rest and heal. After a week with no improvement, the decision was made by his mom (my grandmother), siblings and son to make him a DNR knowing he would not want to live whatever days he had left on a machine. My uncle was be removed from life support after 12 days, around 3pm April 16th and passed peacefully around 8pm the same day.
We would like to raise funds to cover the costs and honor his end of life wishes.
Though he had COPD for many years, this was sudden and unexpected. Mike was so loved by so many. Our family is heartbroken to have to lay him to rest at his young age.
Please consider helping our family achieve Mike's wishes.
