Help Honor Michael Newton's Legacy

Hello everybody,

For those who know our family, our father Michael Newton has been battling Leukodystrophy for over 20 years now. Unfortunately, our father’s health has taken a turn for the worst. Sadly, due to complications with the Leukodystrophy, our father is now suffering from Aspiration Pneumonia, which is a lung infection caused by food from the stomach entering the lung. Saturday July 6th as a family with the Doctors direction we had to make a very tough decision to ultimately stop our father’s feeding due to the food causing permanent damage to the lungs. Sadly our father was called home July 17th.

Who is Michael Newton?

An incredible husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and grandfather. He served the city of West Covina’s Police Department for 25 years. He served and sacrificed for the community for over 2 decades as an officer, a detective, and desk officer. Whenever we walked in to the PD with our father you heard his name ring down the halls of the department, “Newwwwwwwttt!!!!” As he was so deeply loved by his fellow officers. He was a police Olympic gold medalist. A football Coach. A provider. Our father had a big heart and helped every one that he could. “Coach Mike” is still thought about til this day by his former players.

When it came to being a father, he took it very seriously. He would work countless hours of overtime to give his family the absolute best. The Newtons are a big sports family, and our father always found a way to sign us up, pay for league fees, and all of our equipment for all 4 of us.. Even when he was wheelchair bound our father always found a way to make it to the games and to support us. He is the epitome of strength in every way fighting leukodystrophy for 24 years. Which is how he earned the title “Superman” from our mother. Our mother/his wife Susan was called home in 2019 when she passed from stage 4 breast cancer. True life partners that stuck with each other through sickness and health.

Michael’s legacy will live on through his 4 Children - Brandon, Brock, Brayton, and Bree. As well as his 9 grandchildren - Lucas, Lennox, Kaidyn, Brandon, Kannon, Bryant, Lewis, Lana, and Michael. To his grand babies he was called “Papa”, a name passed down to the patriarch of the Newton family.

The Newton family thanks everybody for all of the thoughts and prayers we’ve received. If you would like to donate, anything and everything is greatly appreciated. All donations will be put towards the funeral, service, and burial arrangements. God bless you all, and thank you!
